Coalition de R\u00e9sistance pour l’Unit\u00e9 \u00c9tudiante Syndicale (CRUES) Mobilizes for Student Strike in Solidarity with Palestine on November 21st and 22nd<\/b><\/p>\n
Montreal, QC \u2013 November 17, 2024 \u2013 The Coalition de R\u00e9sistance pour l’Unit\u00e9 \u00c9tudiante Syndicale (CRUES) recently held a congress at C\u00e9gep de Sherbrooke on October 19\u201320, where delegates from student unions all across Quebec came together to discuss and debate social and economic issues affecting students here in Quebec. After lengthy debate, CRUES\u2019s members changed the primary campaign to focus on Palestine liberation with the primary goal of getting institutions, corporations, the federal government, and the provincial government to sever all ties with Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n The first step in this campaign is a strike for the 2 days on November 21\u201322. Student associations at: UQAM, Coll\u00e8ge de Maisonneuve, Concordia University, C\u00e9gep de Lionel Groulx, Dawson, UQAR among others, have voted to strike totalling over 45 000, and more to come. CRUES would also like to highlight Concordia and McGill for being significantly more politically repressive towards pro-palestinian groups than all the other above-mentioned institutions and CRUES denounces the abuse of these universities internal procedures to bar pro-palestinaian student activists from their own campus<\/span>1-2<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n The campaign will also see a Montreal city-wide student protest on November 22 at 4:30pm, beginning at Place \u00c9milie-Gamelin in Montreal, bringing students and community supporters together in a powerful public demonstration of solidarity. This protest marks a continuation of student-led efforts to call for divestment and human rights advocacy, emphasizing the influence of Quebec\u2019s student unions in addressing global issues from within academic and governmental spheres.<\/span><\/p>\n Link 1<\/span> La Coalition de R\u00e9sistance pour l’Unit\u00e9 \u00c9tudiante Syndicale (CRUES) se mobilise pour une gr\u00e8ve \u00e9tudiante en solidarit\u00e9 avec la Palestine les 21 et 22 novembre<\/b><\/p>\n Montr\u00e9al, QC – 17 novembre 2024 – La Coalition de R\u00e9sistance pour l’Unit\u00e9 \u00c9tudiante Syndicale (CRUES) a r\u00e9cemment tenu un congr\u00e8s au C\u00e9gep de Sherbrooke les 19 et 20 octobre, o\u00f9 des d\u00e9l\u00e9gations d\u2019associations \u00e9tudiantes du Qu\u00e9bec se sont r\u00e9unis pour discuter et d\u00e9battre des enjeux sociaux et \u00e9conomiques qui touchent la population \u00e9tudiante ici au Qu\u00e9bec. Apr\u00e8s un long d\u00e9bat, les membres de la CRUES ont chang\u00e9 la campagne principale pour se concentrer sur la lib\u00e9ration de la Palestine avec l’objectif principal d’amener les institutions, les entreprises, le gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral et le gouvernement provincial \u00e0 rompre tous les liens avec Isra\u00ebl.<\/span><\/p>\n La premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape de cette campagne est une gr\u00e8ve de deux jours, les 21 et 22 novembre. Des associations \u00e9tudiantes de l’UQAM, de l\u2019UQAR, du Coll\u00e8ge de Maisonneuve, de l’Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al, de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Concordia, du C\u00e9gep Lionel Groulx, entre autres, ont vot\u00e9 la gr\u00e8ve pour un total de plus de 45 000 personnes et d\u2019autres associations vont se joindre dans les prochains jours. La CRUES aimerait \u00e9galement souligner que parmi les institutions mentionn\u00e9es plus haut, Concordia et McGill sont les plus r\u00e9pressives politiquement envers les groupes pro-palestiniens et la CRUES d\u00e9nonce l’abus des proc\u00e9dures internes de ces universit\u00e9s pour interdire \u00e0 la population \u00e9tudiante activiste pro-palestinienne l’acc\u00e8s \u00e0 leur propre campus<\/span>1-2<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n La campagne comprendra \u00e9galement une manifestation le 22 novembre \u00e0 16h30, qui d\u00e9butera \u00e0 la Place \u00c9milie-Gamelin \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, rassemblant les personnes \u00e9tudiantes et sympathisantes de la communaut\u00e9 dans une puissante d\u00e9monstration publique de solidarit\u00e9. Cette manifestation s’inscrit dans la continuit\u00e9 des efforts d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s par la population \u00e9tudiante pour appeler au d\u00e9sinvestissement et \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense des droits de l’homme, soulignant l’influence des associations \u00e9tudiantes du Qu\u00e9bec afin d\u2019adresser les probl\u00e8mes mondiaux au sein des sph\u00e8res acad\u00e9miques et gouvernementales.<\/span> -30-<\/span><\/p>\n CRUES is a student union that brings together local student associations at regional and so-called Quebec-wide levels, with a total of 35,000 members with 12 member student associations.
